To celebrate NAIDOC Week Parliament Fountains will be lit red and yellow from Monday 8 July to Sunday 14 July.
This year’s theme chosen by the National NAIDOC Committee, is ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud’.
The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The
Parliament of Western Australia acknowledges NAIDOC Week and recognises and celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The Parliament of Western Australia is honoured to be situated on the ancestral lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people and acknowledges the First Australians as the traditional owners of the lands we represent and pays respects to their Elders both past and present.
